The throat chakra is said in yoga to be a wheel of energy located in the center of the throat close to the cervical spine. It is the fifth of the seven primary chakras. It is believed that this circle of prana, or life force energy, has its activation point in the pit of the throat. This chakra is involved with expression and will, the ears and mouth and the endocrine system, due to its proximity to the thyroid gland. The Sanskrit name for throat chakra is visuddha. The throat chakra corresponds to the energy of inspired creativity. It is also the center for communication, including the speaking of truth; hence, in yogic teaching, it is believed to be the first of the higher or spiritual chakras. If the throat chakra is in balance, then one is expressing their authentic truth openly and honestly. In relationships, one is able to be true to one's self and to express one's beliefs without fear. If this chakra is out of balance, it is thought to cause problems physically with thyroid disorders, sore throats, fevers and infections. It can also be linked to neck and shoulder problems. The throat chakra is represented by the colour blue and is drawn as a 16-petalled flower with an upside-down triangle with a circle at its center. The bija mantra for the throat chakra is Hum, and chanting this bija is one of the ways thought to bring the throat chakra into balance. The location of this chakra is at the throat level. It’s important to know that this chakra is multidimensional and often represented as going outside the front of the throat and going inside the back at a slightly upward angle. This chakra is associated with the brachial and the pharyngeal plexi and connected to the palate, pharynx, tongue, jaws, and mouth. It’s also connected to the neck and shoulders. The thyroid gland is associated with this chakra, and it regulates the conversion of energy in your body through growth, metabolism, and temperature. This chakra is associated with certain behavioral and psychological characteristics. It represents expression and your ability to speak out and express your truth. It signifies both verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as internal and external communication. This chakra connects with the etheric realm, as well as the subtle realms of your intuitive abilities and your spirit. It gives you the inclination to create and project your blueprints and ideas into reality. This chakra helps you realize your purpose or your vocation, and it makes sure that you have a good sense of timing. This chakra is all about expressing yourself. It fills you with the truth, with your purpose in life, and with an abundant source of creativity. You must remember that this chakra has a natural connection with the sacral chakra, which is the center of your emotions and creativity. This chakra’s emphasis is on expressing and projecting your creativity to the world according to your perfect form and authenticity. The throat chakra connects you to your spirit. Because of where it is located, this chakra is also often seen as the bottleneck when it comes to energy movement in the body. It sits right before the upper chakras of the head. Opening this chakra greatly helps in aligning your vision with your reality. It also releases the pressure that affects your heart chakra, which is located just below it. This chakra is connected with the etheric body, which holds the template or blueprint of other dimensions in the body. It’s a significant reference point that aligns the energies through the chakra system. The element of this charka is sound and the planet is Saturn. The body parts associated with this charka are the throat neck, jaw, esophagus, trachea, breathing, voice, cervical vertebrae, back of the neck, shoulders, ears, throat vocal system, mouth, tongue, parathyroid, atlas, gum, teeth and menstral cycle. The sanskrit name is Vishuddha and the healthfulness of the throat chakra is signified by how openly and honestly you can express yourself. The biggest challenge affecting the throat chakra is expressing yourself in the most truthful manner in conveying truthfulness, not only to others, but also to yourself. It might seem odd, but a habitual liar will often begin to believe his own deceptions to some degree. When you present yourself outwardly through speech and demeanor in a false way you are infecting the energy intake and outtake flow of your throat chakra. Do not lose your authenticity, it can cause the throat chakra to shut down. The throat chakra is often associated with the thyroid gland in the human endocrine system. This gland is in the neck and produces hormones essential for growth and maturation. Excessive stress, namely fear and fear from speaking out, can affect the throat chakra, and thyroid problems may occur. Singing is a harmless and beneficial way of stimulating the throat chakra, whereas rubbing or hitting the throat area is not and can be harmful. We often think of communication as being the ability to say what you want to say, but there is so much more to communication than simply speaking. Being able to transform complicated abstract ideas and feelings into the right words so that others can understand our true meaning is not always easy. We aren’t always listening to what a person is saying with an open mind; in fact, most often, we are thinking about how we will respond. Knowing when to communicate and when to remain silent or reserve judgment is another aspect of communication that is all connected to the Throat Chakra. When this chakra is open, and the energy can flow healthily, it is easier and more enjoyable to communicate. Ideas and feelings can be put into words and shared in a positive way. This is slightly different to communication. Communication is about connecting to another person or group of people. Expression doesn’t have to have an audience. Self-expression can take the form of talking, but it also includes creative forms such as expression through art, writing, or music. This can be very tough for some people to do, but the Throat Chakra gives us each the power to express ourselves. Exploring your thoughts and feelings through artistic expression is a healthy human activity, but social conditioning and negative self-image can hold us back. This energy center located in the throat is all about removing those obstacles and allowing for self-expression in whatever form you choose. Understanding our higher sense of purpose is one of the most important – and sometimes most challenging – aspects of our inner lives. Having a vocation, whether it is a job or some other activity, is important for people. Without a higher purpose, we can feel adrift in life. The Throat Chakra is very much associated with the sense of purpose and being able to discern the right path for our lives. When it is open, we should have a stronger sense of our own power, a greater faith in our ability, and greater courage to express our intentions and step forward towards our higher purpose without fear. The Throat Chakra is associated with ether, air, or space. This is the chakra most closely linked to what is called the causal plane; a spiritual plane that echoes the physical body. This means that it holds this connection between your physical body and your spiritual body; the inner ‘you.’ Your spiritual goals and aspirations are an essential part of you. In order to hone your intuition and become more attuned to your sense of the spiritual, you need to be able to connect to this inner self. The ability to connect to this part of you will allow you to express your true self – to speak your truth – more freely.

The Root sound of this Chakra is Ham. They way to pronounce is very easy though. The way we pronounce Hum, exactly like when we “Hum” a song. The root sound is called as the beeja, beeja mantra or beejakshara i.e., root mantra or root word for a particular chakra. Root sound is the one which is chanted to activate the center or chakra. Every chakra has a primary deity, god and a shakti(Goddess) for its proper representation. This chakra has Akash (Ether) as its primary Deity. Sadhashiva and Shakti Shakini as its deities. Akash is seated on a white elephant (Gaja). He has Four Arms with mudras (hand signs) of granting boon and dispelling fear. He has pasha (goad) and anushka (noose) in the remaining two hands. Sadashiva is said to be seated in the lap of Akasha. There are two descriptions of the Sadashiva, the 5th chakra, whose Sanskrit name means "Purifier," is the gateway to the chakras devoted to spirituality.

This posture provides very strong opening for both throat and heart chakras. Both the throat and the heart are protected in the front and exposed and opened at the back. This is different from how we usually open the throat or heart chakra. Most of the time we open the front of the body. We are doing something new here. Changing our pattern of opening. The posture is called the plow pose, because symbolically, we are "plowing" through the field to implant new patterns of behavior which serve us better in our lives. You may find that you will need a folded towel underneath your shoulders.Camel pose is a strong asana that opens up your chest and throat area. This pose works on opening the heart and the throat chakras. This yoga asana stretches the entire front of the body, abdomen, chest, and throat, as well as deep hip flexors - the psoas muscle. It strengthens your back muscles and stimulates organs in the abdomen.

Emotional problems affecting the Neck Chakra: Poor communication, arrogance, gossips, secrets are a few of the main factors that can affect the Throat Chakra. Speaking from an emotional point of view, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem are amongst the symptoms caused by a dysfunctional Throat Chakra. Physical health problems affecting the Neck Chakra: Consequently, an imbalanced Vishuddi can cause laryngitis, earache or neck pain.
Signs that the fifth charka is inbalance
Chronic throat conditions,Thyroid imbalances,Dental health issues,Neck and shoulder pain,Inability to give voice to self,controlling behaviors,judgmental of self and others,habitual lying,habitual lying,dhy/timid,excessive talking,doesn’t listen to others,blocked creative flow,speech and/or hearing impairments,passive aggressive behaviors.

When the throat chakra is blocked or otherwise imbalanced, energy flow is hindered and can lead to physical symptoms affecting the head, mouth, throat, and neck. It is not uncommon to experience neck pain, headaches, hoarseness, and sore throat when the flow of energy through the throat chakra is disrupted. Some common physical symptoms of blockage include:
chronic sore throat, frequent headaches, dental issues, mouth ulcers, hoarseness, thyroid problems, laryngitis, temporomandibular disorders of the jaw and neck pain.
Consequently, the blockage can also impact your physical health. When you experience such signs of physical discomfort, healing practices focusing on the upper body area, in particular your neck and shoulders, can bring relief and allow energy to move more freely. Of course, for serious and recurring symptoms, please consult a physician whom you trust. When the throat chakra is imbalanced, the blockage can also manifest through non-physical symptoms that may impact you at various levels from psychological and emotional, to psychically and spiritually. Non-physical signs of blockage can be more prevalent. Among the more commons signs are:
fear of speaking, inability to express thoughts, shyness, inconsistency in speech and actions, social anxiety, inhibited creativity, stubbornness and detachment.

For instance, perpetuated blockages that are fairly significant can cause one to become arrogant, deceptive, domineering, or manipulative. On the contrary, energy that flows freely through the throat chakra promotes effective, truthful communication. You are able to “find you.” You are confident, responsible, and can easily find the right words to express your thoughts. A blockage of the throat chakra can cause you to become stoic, quiet, and fearful. The imbalance may also create feelings of anxiety, insecurity, and shyness when it comes to self-expression and speaking to others. Public speaking can cause near paralysis when the issue is a blocked fifth chakra. An imbalance in the throat chakra can adversely affect many aspects of your personal and professional life. You may find you avoid social situations and are more comfortable alone. You may even become distrustful of your inner voice.
