The Third Eye Chakra

Updated: Sep 10

The Third Eye chakra's symbol is governed by Krishna, the Hindu god of wisdom, the sixth chakra symbol is the Om positioned over an inverted triangle that is seated within a circle between two lotus petals. Taken individually, all these elements’ meanings are representative of wisdom. The element of this chakra is light the sixth chakra’s symbol is dominated by the Om. Frequently included in everything from prayer to meditation and even the mundane, like yoga practice, it is a mantra of grounding, focus, and recognition of the Divine. The color is Indigo, which is also known as Royal Blue, is the color of the third eye chakra. It symbolizes deep inner knowing and wisdom. This color unlocks the door to the Divine, and it is the color that we relate to night. It is at night that senses become smoother and more refined, and it is at night that a different part of ourselves is awakened. Indigo color chakra provides clarity to your senses, which includes your feeling, hearing, and seeing. Your sixth sense is what is known as the third eye. The planet of this chakra is Saturn and opening the third eye is a process. It can happen if you’re ready for it. You feel a certain pressure on this spot. It will disappear. Months later it happens again. It’s doesn’t open at once. It’s a process of trial and error and can take quite a while. The third eye is located on your forehead, between your eyebrows, but just a little bit higher. The central point for your intuition, imagination and inner wisdom. We can’t physically observe this spot as an eye. It’s an energetic eye. This spot is connected with the pineal gland. When the pineal gland is activated, the third eye opens…. This article is about the third eye. If the third eye develops further in the future, you can see clearly with it and observe other dimensions. A very important and interesting part of your spiritual growth. You might feel an itch on your forehead or get the feeling there’s a red, swollen spot. These are signs your third eye is opening. You will see dots, flashes and such. You can then see all the energy of angels when they move around you and your dreams become more vivid and you can remember them better. You feel peaceful. You feel beings. You see beings. You often have deja vu experiences. You hear things other people don’t. You have visions or see things others don’t. You feel the need to meditate more. You become more creative and you’re full of creative ideas. You know something before it happens. You know what your goal is in this life. You met your guide or feel you’re being guided. You feel other people’s emotions. You see auras. You often have a gut feeling (intuition). You have a tingling feeling near your third eye chakra. You (sometimes) see energy flow through the room.

In addition to causing strong gut , having an open third eye can induce a wide range of other side effects. In particular, look out for the following third eye opening side effects. A light feeling of pressure between your eyebrows. This could be similar to the sensation of someone gently pressing a finger to the skin in that area. This needn't happen when you're feeling particularly spiritual, but it is often a reminder that the spiritual dimension of life is currently relevant. Starting to picture things in your mind (or even starting to dream about particular things) before they happen. A sense that colors are brighter and that your environment is sharper. An open third eye allows you to take in light and details that you would otherwise miss, and this can be intense or overwhelming at first. Feeling like you are changing on a fundamental level, even if you struggle to put it into words. It's common for the third eye to open because of transformative experiences, or to occur just before a period of great growth. More frequent tension headaches (i.e., headaches that feel like pressure on your temples or like a band around your head). This is sometimes explained as being a result of your mind working harder than usual.

If your third eye opens at a time that you don't expect and you're ill-equipped to manage it, your sleep can be severely disrupted. In particular, you may experience especially intense dreams and nightmares, some of which can be frightening. You may also wake up feeling tired, and find the images from your dreams keep returning throughout the day in a way that makes it hard to concentrate or relax. Meditating before going to bed can help you to counteract this possible side effect of third eye experiences, encouraging your mind to enter into a calm and balanced state that facilitates less erratic input from the third eye. In addition, keeping a dream journal can help you understand the underlying themes from dreams and nightmares, and your third eye will typically stop overloading you with repeatedly intense imagery if you process the lesson or message that is being represented during your sleep. When your third eye first opens, your finely honed faculty of intuition may feel like more of a burden than a gift. You may become so good at predicting what will happen in your life (or how others behave) that you feel truly unnerved by it and find it daunting rather than useful. In time, you will become used to the improved accuracy of your gut feelings. The lesson here is not to try and repress your gut feelings. Instead of reducing their frequency, pushing them away tends to make them come back with a greater level of intensity. This includes in the form of dreams, as mentioned above. To deal with the scarily accurate predictions involved in opening your third eye, try to remind yourself that these intitions will help you make good choices. While it can seem bizarre at first, it is also the key to a happier, more informed future. Sometimes, people report a fearlessness associated with opening your third eye chakra, as they have a sense of being invincible or super-human. The opening of the third eye can be deeply empowering, and with this empowerment often comes a dramatic increase in self-confidence. So, what should you do to ensure that this new fearlessness is healthy? Firstly, it's important to note that an open third eye doesn't make you omniscient So, it's still important to think carefully about everything you choose to do in life. Secondly, it's helpful to deliberately engage the rational parts of your mind in order to make sure you get some logical input to balance the raw intuition few to you by the third eye. For example, it can be helpful to write a pros and cons list about something you're thinking about doing. In addition, write down all the feelings and intuitions that strike you. When you astrally project, part of you leaves your body and travels elsewhere. This typically happens in bed at night, when your soul or essence may raise up above your physical body and leave you feeling frightened and confused. As you become more spiritually powerful by opening your third eye, this power can emerge at unpredictable times and this can be difficult to get used to at first. The trick here is to realize that there is nothing inherently dangerous about astral projection. You can not get “stuck” outside of your body. Plus, nothing bad will happen to your body during the period in which you temporarily detach from it. Try to view experiences of astral projection as signals that your intuitive faculties are sharpening and that you are becoming more and more in tune with the universe. Once this type of experience becomes more normal, you may even find it pleasurable or profound. When your third eye becomes oversensitive, you may experience some of the physical side effects that we discussed above. Most notably, you may develop a sensitivity to light, with bright sun and vivid colors becoming almost offensive to look at. In addition, you might start to get uncomfortable headaches that your doctor considers to be unexplained. It's unpleasant to deal with these signs of having an oversensitive third eye. Therefore, it's important to work on balancing your third eye charka (more on that below). In addition to this balancing, you may find it helpfully to temporarily limit your exposure to, especially stimulating environments. By gradually increasing the time you spend outside, for example, you can slowly allow your third eye to become acclimatized to the intense sights and sounds that flood it. Meanwhile, relaxing your body will help to reduce the tension in your head muscles, potentially dulling your headaches. The mere opening of the third eye can itself lead to feeling confused and frightened. In this way, you may even start to ask how to close your third eye as the new flood of information can leave you destabilized. In some cases, you may even wonder if there's a way to go back to how things were before. However, it's vital to remember that you are merely gaining access to information that already existed all around you. You're not changing the future or reading the thoughts of others; you're just tuning in to cues that you didn't use to know how to interpret. When you attempt to view the opening of the third eye as just an increase in a previous capacity, it can seem much less frightening. Further, try to remind yourself that your spiritual awakening can really only be good for you in the long term. It will help you understand your life's true purpose. Finally, as well as feeling frightened, you might notice you start to behave in inconsistent ways. This is similar to the way in which any major change can lead to erratic behavior. You may want time to adjust to the opening of your third eye, and time to figure out what your newly sharpened intuition should mean for how you behave. Be patient with yourself, and don't expect yourself to immediately know exactly how to manage everything you're learning and feeling. As well as simply waiting out this adjustment period, it can be helpful to exercise a little more restraint than usual. In other words, question the urges you feel before simply acting on them. Plus, quickly check that you can stand by your behavior before you choose to put it into practice. Meanwhile, let those you are close to knowing that you're going through a period of growth and adjustment so that they can offer support and compassion.

When the third eye chakra is blocked, it may lead to certain emotional, mental, or spiritual challenges. It leads to cynicism, pessimism, the inability to trust, confusion, inability to perceive the universe, or even believe in a higher power. The third eye lies dormant with its real purpose locked. We become restricted in our abilities and in our capabilities. A blocked third eye chakra blocks our psychic senses and inhibits our intuition. We may struggle to trust ourselves, and it becomes nearly impossible to make decisions without overthinking them. We may even overthink about overthinking. We have a hard time hearing our inner voice and when we hear it, we distrust and brush it off. We become disconnected from the spirit within us and have a hard time believing in spirituality because we are too rooted in the physical world to listen to a higher power or spiritual guidance. A blocked third eye chakra leads to us feeling lost in life. We lose our sense of direction and we just can’t figure out what we are supposed to be doing with our life. We become stuck in our old ways without being able to change our perspective or see things differently. We struggle to see the bigger picture. It may lead to a lack of clarity, confidence, and purpose. Our perception about life becomes fixed and our judgment becomes clouded. We become closed-minded, not believing in anything else other than what makes us comfortable. We reject and dismiss anything spiritual or beyond the physical world. When the third eye chakra is overactive, it may manifest as overindulgence in fantasies and psychic matters. We get stuck in the spiritual world and can’t find our way back to the physical world. It can be disorienting — especially if the root chakra isn't strong — and cause psychological and psychic distress. There is a constant flow of thoughts that can be mentally exhausting. We may feel like we are getting lost in an endless stream of energy download and psychic visions or being bombarded by crazy pieces of information that make no sense. When this goes on too long, it can lead to delusions, hallucinations, or psychosis. We may struggle to distinguish between what’s real and what’s not. We don’t know whether our minds are playing tricks on us or we are finally losing it! We become fearful of the things we are seeing with our third eye, things that may be out of this world, unreal and unsettling.

If one is out of balance to the excess, you might find the following:Lack of concentration, the mind flitting here and there,Obsessiveness,Nightmares,Spending far too much time in self-evaluation with no results,Narrow focus with a lack of flexibility,Often religious but self-righteously so to the point of becoming tyrannical,Over analytical but missing main factors,Delusional or have hallucinations,

When the third eye chakra is deficient:

No imagination or visualization skills,Non-assertive,Bad or repressed memories, difficulty changing their minds—they only see one side of a story which is their way, generally, they cannot see the outcomes or ramifications of their actions, they don’t learn from their mistakes and are doomed to keep repeating them, undisciplined, weak-willed, and afraid of success, unable to set goals, or when set andtheir goals are very low.

Varja means thunderbolt and it is the weapon of a god Indra, ruler of heaven. This sacred weapon is used to get rid of our most powerful enemy - the one within - our inner critic and our judgments that make us feel not good enough. The power of this pose is observation. It is by observing thoughts and not engaging with them further that we can be released from the grip of these thoughts. We know from quantum physics that observation impacts that which is being observed.

Meditation, especially with an open third eye, is always a good place to start and a critical component to balance the third eye.  Meditating under natural light is most beneficial and a good place to start, either sunlight or moonlight. (During the winter you can substitute with full spectrum light.) Concentrate on breathing. With your eyes closed “look” at the area between your eyebrows. This may take several to many attempts, especially if you’ve never attempted to open your third eye. You might try thinking of the color purple and trying to “see” it between your eyebrows (your third eye). Be patient, with enough time and work, your third eye will open. When I want to balance all my chakras, I start trying to “see” red, then orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and finally white. If you have trouble, think of Santa Claus for red, and orange to eat, a yellow flower, etc. as you go through them. Sleep is another critical component of third eye balance. Be sure you get enough sleep at night which should be seven to eight hours. The time between 1:00 and 4:00 a.m. are important for this chakra; the ancients felt this was the when we connected with our higher beings. If you have sleep problems, try breathing exercises or a CD with a guided meditation. Put your “screens” away at least an hour before you go to bed. If you like to read, you’ll need to put the Kindle or Nook away and read an actual paper book! Try not eating for at least two or three hours before bedtime. Art therapy is another way to induce sleep, or self-hypnosis if you are able. The following are essential oils to consider as aromatherapy. These essential oils can be diluted to 3% in a carrier oil on your pulse points, or on a cotton ball or in a diffuser for inhalation.
