The Root Chakra is a spiritual red color energy that is located at the base of your spine. The element of this chakra is Earth, the planet of this chakra is Mars, and the animal of this chakra is the elephant. The purpose of this chakra is to help manifest survival and ground your stability in life. The word Muladhara translates into two Sanskrit words: Mula meaning root and Adhara meaning support or base. The root chakra helps you within to provide grounding and support for your feelings of safety when exploring all aspects of life. The root chakra is associated with security and basic needs like food or water. Meditation on the root chakra brings a solid foundation for activating the rest of the chakras within your body. However, without the root chakra, your chances of surviving situations will be highly decreased because the roots help to anchor the spiritual tree within your soul to the ground, allowing the tree to get the nutrients it needs from the earth to grow and blossom into adaptation. The root chakra stimulates a fight or flight response within the base of your survival drive. The root chakra relates to whatever grounds you to stability in your life, including increasing self-trust and self-confidence. You will be bold to tackle new challenges, and you will indeed feel confident trying something new or pursuing a major life goal. Everything around us contains energy which can be absorbed by energy fields within us through centers of energy called chakras. These chakras are connected to all the vital organs and glands in the body. The word is derived from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘wheel’. Dancing and singing with the door closed and without a care in the world can help you express your freedom and hence clear your root chakra. Singing also helps clear the throat chakra. Express your love for yourself fully by cleansing and purifying your body with a nice hot bath. This is an excellent way to clear your root chakra. Going for a walk with your mind focused on each and every step you make while grounding with the earth will also help clear the root chakra. Overall, the Root Chakra deals with issues of physical and egoic survival. This includes aspects of life that involve self-preservation, including work, home, family, money, food, and other relationships that involve security. Your confidence in, or fear of, your ability/inability to survive is governed by the health of the Root Chakra. Safety and survival instincts such as fight or flight responses and informing impulses, including your ability to sense danger, recognition of truth, and gut-level recognition, stem from here. The Root Chakra also oversees sexuality as it relates to procreation and survival. In this, sexuality is used to establish security, power/dominance, and/or safety. It also relates to physical vitality through physical enjoyment, presence, strength, being grounded in the present, and the feeling of being in your body.

If the Root Chakra is balanced and activated correctly, you will feel secure, humble, grounded, energetic, at an optimal weight, and have healthy eating habits. You will feel relaxed, secure, safe, stable, calm, and confident. You will improve self-preservation, provide basic needs for yourself and your family, be full of energy, have the vitality to do daily tasks, stay healthy, and experience decreased health problems. You will feel more secure and gain more confidence. You will perform all tasks in life with increased confidence and enthusiasm. The Root Chakra will give you the ability to deal with problems and handle conflicts with a calm and constructive mind. You will manage these conflicts smoothly, and troublesome matters will be incapable of scaring you.

If your Root Chakra is imbalanced or blocked, you may experience eating disorders, greed, avarice, illusion, insecurity, fears, restlessness, anxiety, indecisiveness, difficulty making decisions, feeling threatened, unsafe, low self-confidence, lack of survival skills, lower back pain, obesity, constipation, kidney stones, bladder problems, leg issues, cramps, colon issues, fatigue, sluggishness, and urinary issues. If your Root Chakra is blocked, you will feel panicked or anxious. This anxiety can easily infiltrate your thoughts, making your self-worth feel uncertain. You may feel you can’t concentrate and that you’re constantly preoccupied with worries about your well-being. You will feel tired, overly cautious, and afraid of change. You will feel insecure and trust yourself and others less. You will not respect yourself and others, and you will be frequently clumsy and lethargic. Also, it will cause insecurity, violent behavior, and aggressiveness. You’ll be angry at everything and prone to do reckless things.

Reiki is an excellent healing technique for the chakras that are imbalanced, dysfunctional, or even blocked due to problems of the body, mind, and spirit. Keeping your chakras balanced and functioning will prevent problems and illnesses. Reiki involves hand placements targeting all major chakras to remove all negative energies and blockages that stand in the way of your normal energy flow, like a rock in a stream. After these negative forms of energy are removed, your stream of energy is recovered and flows smoothly through your body. It is a natural and safe method of healing that can be used by anyone. During healing, hands are placed on the affected areas that need to be cured. Reiki has been known to be one of the most effective methods of healing the root chakra. Even though the root chakra is at the base of the spine, hands are placed somewhere near the location of the spine. Gemstones can also be used for healing. As the root chakra is associated with the color red, rubies, garnets, and red jasper can be used to clear the root chakra.
Lie down and relax. Make sure you are comfortable and do not cross your arms and legs.
Place both of your hands with your palms down on your lower abdomen.
Visualize a river of energy passing down from the palm of your hands turning into a fast turning bright red ball. Direct your thoughts towards this energy ball and the energy that is being sent.
You might feel some warmth spreading through your body as the chakra gets cleared.
